T-shirt

If I had to wear one t-shirt for the rest of my life it would be a thin short sleeve t-shirt the color is blue with the DC symbol on the front and different designs around the symbol the reason why I chose this shirt and not another is because blue is a light color and it wont attract the heat as much as other colors like black or grey and the reason why I didn’t choose white (if your asking) is because when sweat or water gets on a white shirt you can see through the shirt and I’d rather not have people see through my shirt. The reason why I chose the DC symbol is because ever since I was a little kid I loved DC apparel and always would get my mom to buy me the expensive clothes and shoes that had the DC logo on them. The reason why I chose a thin short sleeve t-shirt is because I do not want to die within three days from heat and it keeps me cool and doesn’t allow my body to overheat. Another reason why I chose this shirt over any other shirt is because I can wear it while swimming and then when I come out it will dry very quickly again.

Cell Phones and society

1. What is the purpose of this article?  What are three main points in this article that the author uses to support his ideas? Agree or disagree with each of his points. Please back up your ideas with specific examples.

The main purpose of this article is to bring awareness to our society about how cell phones are hazardous and rude to society. Some people find it okay to text in a restaurant and during business meetings but others hate it. Pamela Eyring, director of the Protocol School of Washington, which teaches social manners to corporate and government clients, views public texting at an official event as rude claiming that “It isn’t professional, it’s saying, ‘To hell with all of you’ ”. I agree with her point because it is really rude to be texting someone during a presentation especially if the topic is important. Another main point is when this article shows “A third of singles said they’d left a date early because the other person was “constantly glancing” at their cell”.
Say you are on a date with someone and they are constantly texting his/her friends you will get frustrated with them because they are paying more attention to their phone than on you and you will want to leave the date. “We’re losing our one-on-one people skills and ability to engage in uninterrupted, focused conversations.” Texting while driving is extremely dangerous and could cause serious harm, even death in some ways. People may think that texting while driving is completely harmless but most accident that happen are because of texting while driving. Cell phone-related rudeness is so bad it’s treated like a disease requiring awareness. “In July, an Ontario Provincial Police campaign targeted distracted drivers, charging more than 2,000 people; with one woman so preoccupied with her cell she didn’t even notice the sirens flagging her down”.

2. When are times when you believe that cell phones are acceptable? How about Unacceptable? Should schools, movie theatres and other public places consider bans or cell phone jammers like Europe? Consider using the facts below in your answer

I believe that cell phones should only be acceptable when you’re at home or with your friends because when your at home you don’t put yourself or anyone else in danger because you’re distracted by your phone and with your friends its okay to text because they probably don’t care that your texting in front of them. There are plenty of times where it is unacceptable but the most unacceptable times to text on your cell phone is when you’re driving and when you’re in school. Texting while driving cause a huge distraction when you’re driving. There are statistics that show that “While teenagers are texting, they spend about 10 percent of the time outside the driving lane they're supposed to be in.” and this usually leads to many accidents on the road. Phoning someone while driving is just peer stupidity because “Talking on a cell phone while driving can make a young driver's reaction time as slow as that of a 70-year-old”. Texting someone while your in a class is unacceptable because the teachers go out of their way for students to help them excel in school and get good grades but yet, student continue to disobey the rules and continue to disrespect teachers. Why should the teacher spent their time helping students when the students don’t even pay attention in class because they are on their cell phones. There is a proven fact that “Students who have stopped using their cell phone in class reported, on average, a 10% increase in their grade point average”. I believe that students should have their phones taken away from them at the beginning of the class so that they cant be disrespectful to the teacher.

Glog Assignment

http://www.glogster.com/donny55/the-road-by-cormac-mccarthy/g-6lik4ainlkqkrtr5m34m8a0

The Reason I chose the boy for my glog assignment was because I can relate to the boy in many ways and I understood what he was going through. I chose the 4 character traits because those were the traits that jumped out at me throughout the book the main trait that I though stuck out for the boy was that he was terrifies a lot throughout the book and at one point “The boy clung to him crying, His head buried against his chest”. I chose a shadow as the symbol for the boy because all throughout the story the boy follows in his father’s footsteps never leaving his side and making sure his father is okay whenever he is in trouble. Finally, I chose the song “Glad you came” By the wanted because the lyrics to the song relates to the boy and how scared he is at night, not wanting his father to leave his side because he is scared someone might come and take him away

Connection to "The Road"

“It was the first time he’d seen the boy smile in a long time” Pg.19

I can make two personal connections to this quote because I understand what the boy is going through in his travels on the road. My first connection is when I was a very young boy. My grandpa had passed away due to a heart attack in the hospital and I was sad and upset for more than two months because I would always want to see him and go to his house everyday and when he passed away it was extremely sad for me. We were extremely close and I looked up to him like a second father and when I lost him, I was devastated. What had cheered me up two months later was my mom and dad had taken me on a trip to Disneyworld in Orlando, Florida which took my mind off my grandpa but even still today I cry because I miss him terribly.

My second connection to this quote is when I was in Kelowna visiting an elementary for work experience school. A couple years ago I was visiting an old elementary of mine and the principal asked me if I would help out in a grade 2 class for a month, I agreed and when I got into the class I was swarmed by all the little kids in the class but off to the corner of the room was a little boy huddled in the corner crying. When the teacher got her students to stop jumping on me I went over and knelt down beside the boy and asked him what was wrong, he told me he had just lost his puppy and that he was really sad because his puppy had died. When talking to him I found out his name was Gavin and that his puppy had only been a year old. I felt really bad for Gavin because I had also lost a puppy at a young age and I knew exactly how he felt. My puppy had gotten out of the yard and when my dad and I went to find her we found her dead on the highway and I cried for months. It’s hard loosing your pet, especially at a young age. For the month that I was at the school every time I saw Gavin he was more and more upset each day so I decided to take things into my own hands  and I went to his house and talked with his parents about buying him a brand new puppy. They agreed to let me buy Gavin a new puppy so one day at the end of the class I stayed behind with Gavin and his teacher. I left the room and a couple minutes later I returned with a golden retriever puppy and as soon as he saw the puppy his face lit up with the biggest smile on his face, he started to cry, with a smile on his face. That was the best day of my life.

These two connections help me understand the story better because it makes me realize the tough times the boy is going through with having to deal with disturbing scenes and the scary though of being alone in the world with only his dad and nobody else.

Superpower

The thought of having any superpower I want has really got me thinking. There are so many superpowers out there but the one I would love to have would be the ability to save someone from death. I have chosen this superpower because I believe that no one deserves to die painfully and I believe that all people should be able to die in peace. You may think having this superpower may have its disadvantages but it also has its advantages as well. Say you just witnessed a car crash and you found a person whose heart wasn’t beating, you would do everything you could to save that persons life right? Well you can now with the power to keep that person from dieing. If I were a doctor and my patient was dieing and there was nothing I could do? I would want this superpower to stop them from dieing on the surgery table. When I had cancer and I was in children’s hospital in Vancouver I had a buddy in the same room as me and one day he had to go for an emergency surgery to remove his liver and he passed away while in surgery. If I was able to have this superpower when I had my cancer, I would go into that surgery room and bring my best friend back to life. Think about how many people’s lives you can save with this superpower. I think that having this superpower will benefit people’s lives throughout their lifetime and that saving someone’s life can come back to reward you later on in life.

Macbeth Newspaper Article

KING OF SCOTLAND'S REIN NO MORE!!!!!

Macbeth, king of Scotland’s rein is no more. Macduff was seen carrying Macbeth’s capacitated head yesterday as the war had finished its final stages. Sources say that Malcolm had said to Siward that “you, worthy uncle shall, with my cousin, your right noble son, lead our first battle” Young Seward was believed to have gone after Macbeth first but Macbeth was proven to much for young Siward to handle as young Siward was found dead in the kings castle. A woman at the castle had also reported seeing Lady Macbeth looking extremely ill and later saw her fall to her death.

During the course of the battle Macduff had gone after the King of Scotland, Macbeth. Macbeth was walking back to his castle when he heard a noise from behind him telling him to “turn hell-hound, turn!” and as Macbeth turned he was surprised to see Macduff glaring at him. Macbeth was reported to have turned down Macduff’s fight saying that “[he will] not fight thee” and  when Macduff spat back at him saying “then yield thee, coward, and live to be the show and gaze” Macbeth then went after him. Soldiers say that the battle went on for a matter of minutes and then finally Macduff slays and kills the king of Scotland. After Macbeth was killed reports say that his head was seen hanging from a stick at the top of the castle. Malcolm who was the son of Duncan had been deemed the new king of Scotland. Citizens were happy to have seen Macbeth killed and were happy to see a new king come into his place and they hope that things will become better in their lives with the new king.

Moral Dilemma

Mayor
City Hall
666 Elm Street
Happyville, British Columbia

Dear Mr.Mayor:

I believe that you should just keep the evidence that you have on Mr.Grass and just not say anything about his past. Yes he was the commandant of a Nazi concentration camp and he killed 15,000 people but since then he has change into a nice old man who cares alot about his community. And do you really want to bring this situation into a court where all those holocaust survivors have to relive the experience of going through all that pain and suffering?

I mean look what he is doing for the people of your village.Over the years he has donated many amounts of money to different charities as well as support families who cant meet their needs. Each month he goes around making sure everybody has a enough money to support their family.  He is 92 years of age and healthy. His wife passed away six years ago and he has 3 children and many grandchildren. He is at that age in life where anytime could be his time and that you should not put all this pressure onto him at such an elderly age.

I believe Mr.Grass is a kind generous man who cares about the people in his community and that you should just put the evidence away and leave him to live the rest of his life. I can say that if you have found the evidence sooner and he was way younger then do something about it but I mean,he is 92 years old and has no wife and 3 kids, you should leave him be and let him live the rest of his life.

Sincerely,

Donny Jones
